Updates

I wanted to get out some updates out about the redistricting case and what else is going on in the state.  Our Attorney General Gregg Abbott made a comprise plan with all of the organizations in the redistricting law suit in San Antonio, he thought all had agreed but at the last minute one organization pulled out and upset the whole idea.  The plan was to use those maps for this election cycle and then resolve it in a permanently before the next election cycle.

Now the judge has ordered them to agree or start a trial since it really appears there is no comprise with these folks the trial will start and our primary date will probably move back from the April 3rd date. I will forward reports from the state if I get anything new.

This upsets more than our right to elect our parties nominees but also the dates are getting close to our state convention.  Time will be close to have our primary, precinct conventions, SD conventions and get it all done and delegates placed for the state convention before our early June convention date.  Also on the national delegate front I was hoping that now that our primary will be beyond the April 1st date set by the RNC for a winner take all primary we could switch back to a winner take all process.  However, it appears now that the RNC will still make us use the proportional delegate process that we worked out last summer.  I will verify that for sure at our SREC Meeting in March and send out an update.

At the Brazoria County Executive Committee meeting last night Bill Sargent mentioned a guy who tweets minute by minute updates of the redistricting trial in SA.  Bill sent me the information about how you get that if you are on twitter.  I can not forward those reports but some of you may be able to get that information.  The person who will provide regular updates on the Redistricting hearing is Michael Li  @mcpli on twitter.

Well stay informed and tell all of your friends to sign up at www.srecsd11.com.  I am still working on getting the site updated and fix some of the announcement issues and hope to get those all fixed up in the nest few months so it will all be working correctly for the fall elections.

Thanks and God Bless,
