SD 11 SREC: District 129 Session Newsletter

Today marks the 73rd day of the session, which means we are officially passed the halfway point. In total, I have filed 30 bills on a wide range of issues affecting the people of Texas. This week I had four bills heard in committee. If you would like to track my legislation, please click HERE.

Updates

January Tornado Update

Attached you will find a letter from Harris County Appraisal District Board of Directors Chairman Mike Sullivan regarding the information on the Temporary Disaster Exemption because the Harris Central Appraisal District has identified damaged property in your area.

According to the Texas Tax Code, A qualified property that has at least 15% property damage in a governor-declared disaster area can receive a temporary exemption of a portion of the appraised value of the property, which could reduce their 2023 property taxes.

The deadline for residents to file the application is May 11^th.

House Bill 2

The Property Tax Relief Act is moving through the legislative process, which means property tax relief is on the way to Texans! HB 2 and its proposed constitutional amendment, House Joint Resolution 1, were presented to the House Committee on Ways & Means last week. The committee reported favorably on both bills this Monday, marking their advancement to the Texas House floor for consideration by the body.

Texas Realtors Day

On Wednesday, I met with local realtors from District 129. It was wonderful to hear how they are doing and discuss their legislative priorities.
