Updates

House Bill 14

Just like other laws to safeguard children from harmful, life-altering procedures, we must ensure that children are protected from medically unnecessary, irreversible gender modification treatments, including hormone therapies and surgical procedures. The Children’s Gender Protection Act (CGPA), or Senate Bill 14, which I am a co-sponsor, is a compassionate solution that recognizes the continuing evolution of a child in adolescence, providing a common-sense prohibition on treatments and medical procedures to alter a child’s gender before they are of legal adult age. SB 14 passed the Texas House this evening.

House Bill 7

The Texas-Mexico border is not secure, and Texas communities are in crisis as a result. HB7 tackles the border crisis by...

  • Addressing funding challenges in Texas border region communities
  • Providing new border region specialty courts with the necessary resources to resolve border-related offenses
  • Creating a mechanism to compensate property owners for damages caused by crossings
  • Establishing the Border Protection Unit, a mission-oriented, locally-based response to the state’s ongoing border security operations

House Bill 800

HB 800 cracks down on human smuggling, increasing the mandatory minimum sentence for such convictions to 10 years in prison, while also requiring a person who is convicted of running a stash house to serve a minimum of 5 years. The bill also allows for that person to be charged with a third-degree felony, punishable by up to 10 years, for any additional offenses committed.

How to Track Legislation

Ever wonder how the laws that impact your everyday life originate? While this graphic provides you with a simplified overview, You can walk through the entire legislative process by reading this blog post from the Texas House Republican Caucus on how a bill becomes a law in Texas.
