HOUSE APPROVES BALANCED BUDGET THAT PRIORITIZES EDUCATION, CHILD PROTECTION

The House approved its
version of Senate Bill with a final vote of 131-16. The budget provides an additional $1.5 billion for public schools,$500 million to address shortfall in the health care program for retired teachers, and an increase of more than $450 million
 to address crises in Child Protective Services and foster care. It also puts more resources toward mental health services and Texas Grant scholarships,and it protects voter-approved funding for transportation improvements.

The public policy voice of the church, the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops, stopped by the Capitol office to speak about the legislation they are in support and opposed for during this session. Several of their priorities included protecting human life, sanctuary cities, tax credit scholarships and foster care reform.

GOV. ABBOTT WELCOMES BOEING'S NEW GLOBAL SERVICES HEADQUARTERS TO TEXAS
 
Governor Greg Abbott welcomes the new Boeing Global Services (BGS) headquarters to Texas. Boeing already employs more than 4,000 employees in the state and has major sites in Houston, San Antonio and the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The BGS site will be located in Legacy West in the Plano area and will house BGS leadership as well as support staff and will serve as the central hub for 20,000 employees around the world.

Representatives Farenthold, Weber, Babin and Johnson announce Texas maritime caucus, their plan to promote Texas ports and waterways
 
WASHINGTON-- Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas), Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas), Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) and Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) announced the creation of the Texas Maritime Caucus Wednesday.
 
The mission of the Caucus is to promote Texas ports and waterway districts, illustrate the importance of the ports and waterways to areas of the state and nation beyond the Gulf of Mexico, and advocate for changes in current law to facilitate optimal import and export of cargo and the transportation of passengers. The group plans on making ports a national conversation.
