HURRICANE HARVEY INFORMATION

Last week Governor Abbott announced the Governor's Commission to Rebuild Texas, which will be led by Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp. The Commission will oversee the response and relief effort between the state and local governments to ensure victims of the storm get everything they need as quickly as possible. The Commission will also be involved in the rebuilding process, focusing on restoring roads, bridges, schools and government buildings in impacted communities.  To learn more click here.

Three Disaster Recovery Centers Open in Houston Area

Three State of Texas/FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers opened Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, in the cities of Katy, Baytown and Houston.  Disaster recovery centers offer in-person support to individuals and businesses in 39 counties included in the Texas federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent floods.  For more information click here.

RED CROSS RESOURCES:

The Immediate Assistance Program launched today, Monday September 11th, here in Texas. The American Red Cross Immediate Assistance Program is designed to provide emergency financial assistance in the amount of $400 to those Texas households in 39 federally-declared counties impacted by Hurricane Harvey, specifically in those communities where homes were most severely damaged, residents were displaced and life-sustaining services were disrupted. These counties include Galveston, Brazoria, and Matagorda counties. D-SNAP Benefits Rollout

The Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will begin offering D-SNAP in 11 counties beginning this Wednesday, September 13.  Benefits will be offered for seven days and applicants must follow these instructions also listed below.  Please see HHSC's website for additional information regarding the D-SNAP program: https://hhs.texas.gov/services/financial/disaster-assistance/disaster-snap

Last week my colleagues and I had the opportunity to meet with Governor Abbott and heads of Texas state agencies to discuss the Governor's Commission to Rebuild Texas and to talk implementation.  It is everyone's goal as a community and state to rebuild together!
