Deadline Approaching To Report Harvey Claims

As the anniversary of Hurricane Harvey approaches, the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) is reminding Texans that some insurance policies have a one-year deadline to file claims.
Harvey made landfall August 25. Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) claims must be reported by the one-year anniversary of the date the damage occurred unless the policyholder can show good cause for the delay.

To file a TWIA claim, go to www.twia.org or call 1-800-788-8247.

Some other insurance policies also have a one-year deadline to file claims unless the policyholder can show good cause for the delay. To see if your other policies have claim deadlines, check the policy language or contact your insurance company or agent.
Visit the TDI website at www.tdi.texas.gov for recovery tips or help resolving an issue with your insurance company. You can also call the TDI Consumer Help Line at 1-800-252-3439 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

TEA RELEASES FIRST A-F RATINGS IN TEXAS HISTORY

Wednesday marked the launch of www.txschools.org, which makes all district's A-F ratings available to the public with a wealth of resources to explain the state's new accountability system.  The system and site are years in the making and mark a huge step forward for Texas public education.

The report card is designed to tell us how well we are helping students reach grade level and how well  we are preparing them for success after high school.  Much like the grades schools give students, we can use these grades to identify ways to help schools improve over time.  The overall grade is based on performance in three different areas, or domains.
Texas High School Aerospace Scholars
NASA wants today’s students to become the engineers, scientists, researchers and innovators of tomorrow. High School Aerospace Scholars offers a one-of-a-kind experience for Texas high school students to explore the possibilities of a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related major or career. Learn more about the program by viewing "High School Aerospace Scholars: A Journey of Discovery." The adventure starts this fall with an online course and culminates - for students who earn the opportunity - with an onsite summer experience at NASA's Johnson Space Center.
