US Army Corp of Engineers-Galveston District meeting with Col. Zetterstrom

Recently, our office participated in an update from the USACOE Galveston District which oversees 16 Congressional Districts and 4 Senatorial District in two states. The USACOE is responsible for Clear Creek through the Flood Control Act of 1968. The recent approval of almost $300 million dollars by congress for Clear Creek is a benefit to House District 129. Harris and Brazoria county will have to participate in the 35% cost share of the local match as the Local Corporative Partners. Local partners will have 30 years to repay the USACOE their portion of the cost share.

USACOE is currently working with the Harris County Flood Control District, Brazoria County Drainage District #4 and other partners to solidify the engineering design and begin the process of construction.
USACOE reinforces that it is their mission to mitigate flooding within the 100 year plain and the extensive studies done by the USACOE demonstrate that the plans will not cause adverse effects downstream to residents or the environment. USACOE has other programs available should entities want to further expand on projects along Clear Creek and should they want to seek additional federal funding. The Corp is a willing partner to assist local entities with permitting that is regulated by the federal government through the Flood Control Act of 1968.
