TEXAS HOUSE DISTRICT 129 NEWSLETTER
Elected to the Board of Directors of the Texas Conservative Coalition

I am honored to have been elected by my colleagues to serve on the Board of Directors of the Texas Conservative Coalition.

Since its founding in 1985, TCC has served as the conservative caucus of the Texas Legislature.

TCC believes that the principles and ideas of our nation’s founding are principles worth conserving and fighting for. Working together, we will continue to identify effective and conservative solutions to key issues within state government, influence a new generation of conservative grassroots leadership and ultimately pursue policies that will keep the State of Texas the best place to live, work and raise a family.
House Committees Begin Public Hearings

I was honored to be appointed by Speaker Dennis Bonnen to serve for a third term on the House Committee on Insurance and to serve as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety.

Both of these committees will begin holding public hearing next week and I am looking forward to getting to work.
State of the State

On Tuesday Governor Abbott delivered his State of the State address to a joint session of the Texas Legislature. In his remarks, the governor named school finance reform, teacher pay raises, school safety, property tax reform, mental health, and disaster response as emergency items for the Legislature's consideration.

Under the Texas Constitution, the Legislature cannot consider any bills before the 60th day of a regular session, unless the governor declares an emergency. By declaring these critical issues as emergencies, the governor is allowing the House and Senate to get to work on these critical issues immediately.

State of the Judiciary

On Wednesday, The Honorable Nathan Hecht, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas, delivered the State of the Judiciary address to a joint session of the Texas House and Senate.
