District 129 Newsletter

Governor Abbott Signs House Bill 302

Governor Greg Abbott has signed my House Bill 302 into law! Effective September 1, this law closes a legal loophole and will make sure every Texan is able to lawfully carry a firearm from their vehicle to their apartment or condominium.
Hurricane Harvey Bill Passes Senate

My House Bill 2320, which will help Texas protect its critical infrastructure from the next natural disaster, has passed both the House and Senate. The bill still needs to be signed by the Governor in order to become law.

Thank you to Senator Larry Taylor for shepherding this bill through the Texas Senate.
House Passes State Flood Plan Bills

This week the Texas House gave tentative approval to Senate Bills 7 & 8, which will create a state-wide flood plan and fund flood mitigation projects will into the future. SB 7 has fully passed the House, while SB 8 will require an additional vote by the House before final passage.
Honoring Schools of Character

Fourteen Texas schools have been named as 2019 Schools of Character by Character.org, a national non-profit that was established in 1993 with the goal of inspiring, educating, and empowering students to become ethical citizens. In order to qualify as a School of Character, a school must demonstrate a strong commitment to character-building initiatives.

Of these 14 schools across all of Texas, three are in House District 129: Whitcomb, McWhirter, and Weber Elementary Schools!

It was my honor to welcome teachers from these schools to the Capitol this week and pass House Resolution No. 1465 in celebration of this high distinction.
