Ladies and gentleman I hope all are having a great Easter weekend and I thank God for his gifts he has given us. I am sending this e-mail to share with you the latest from our March SREC meeting in Austin. - Thanks Dennis Paul
The SREC had its quarterly meeting March 26th and 27th at RPT headquarters in Austin. Both of our SREC SD11 committee members Dennis Paul and Sheryl Berg attended the meeting. It is always great to meet with this exciting group and get good feedback on what is going on across the state. The citizens are all worried about our freedoms under attack by an overreaching federal government and the Republicans in Texas are doing what we can to stop this power grab and defend our freedoms.
At two days of meetings we were introduced to the new executive director for the Republican Party of Texas (RPT), Jesse Lewis. Jesse comes to us after working for the Texas Workforce Commission in an executive role for 5 years, he also has extensive political experience even working for RPT in the past. After meeting with him in a personal meeting, I think he has the ability, integrity, and the desire to run our party's efforts for this year's political activities and hopefully beyond. The SREC also passed an updated budget and financial plan to get us through this political cycle. Chairman Adams has done a great job of providing the SREC with a completely transparent process of all that the leadership is doing.
We also passed two resolutions one supporting the Texas open meeting act which has been under fire from the democrats. We also passed a resolution commending Attorneys General Gregg Abbott for his lawsuit for the State of Texas to stop the recently passed healthcare bill in Washington. It's great to have responsive elected officials in Texas to do the right thing on behalf of our citizens and protect us from an over grapping federal government.
We also had several discussions on rules and by-laws. We passed a request to the temporary rules committee at the state convention to keep the agenda order as we have traditionally done it in spite of a another threatened lawsuit. We felt that the way were are scheduling the activities is the correct order of business to ensure maximum grass roots involvement and providing the registered delegates the maximum opportunity to have a say in the process. We think the process we have been doing is in accordance with all state laws and RPT rules. We also debated a rule to modify the SREC bylaws to better provide grass roots control over the SREC to ensure our members are doing what is best for Texas and the RPT. This bylaws change was tabled so maybe we can bring it up again next term.
Our state convention is set for June 10-11 in Dallas at the Dallas convention center. Delegates elected in their SD caucuses will be getting a registration packet tin the mail soon. Check our web site www.srecsd11.com for details. We are planning a convention / precinct get out the vote training session for SD11 and SD17 members in April or May keep an eye on our web site for details.
If anyone has any questions pleas contact me and I will be glad to discuss this as well as any other issue effecting the RPT or Texas. I think you for electing me to this position and plan to run for re-election at our next convention in Dallas. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
I hope all have a great Easter, Thanks and God Bless,
Dennis Paul
