Space Day At The Texas Legislature! On March 3th at the Texas Capitol we celebrated Space Day and discussed NASA's ongoing missions, the Texas Aerospace Scholars, and several technology outreach programs across our district. My office was lucky enough to welcome students interested in STEM fields and Astronaut Timothy Kopra. Additionally representatives from NASA, the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, and industry partners met with legislators and staff to discuss issues that are important to the space industry. House Resolution 805 was read in the house chamber recognizing March 3, 2015, as Space Day at the State Capitol and honoring NASA. To read HR805 click here. On March 5-7th, the coastal members and I along with community stakeholders welcomed legislative members and staff to the Bay Area Houston and Galveston area . Throughout the weekend, we toured Johnson Space Center, Galveston National Lab at UTMB, TAMU Galveston, and attended the Houston Rodeo. It was a successful week highlighting our part of the great state of Texas. Thank you to all stakeholders who participated. | | | Aerospace Caucus Established
Last week my colleagues in the house joined me in establishing the Aerospace Legislative Caucus. The mission of the Aerospace Caucus is to promote initiatives that will secure Texas' ranking as a world leader-advancing space exploration, science and security. Districts across the state have engaged in activity committed to technological development and innovation, defining future space access and utilization. This caucus aims to maximize Texas' aerospace footprint and maintain its legacy of exploration excellence. We are working with the Senate to establish the caucus with Senate members. My office will keep constituents and stakeholders informed of legislation and initiatives the caucus will support. | | Legislative Update
The deadline for filing bills and joint resolutions other than local bills, emergency appropriations, and bills that have been declared an emergency by the governor is Friday, March 13th. This means that no new legislation can be filed in the chief clerks office after Friday. Most pieces of legislation filed before the deadline have a chance to be debated in committee and often in the house and senate chambers.
