 OFFICE OF STATE REPRESENTATIVE
DENNIS PAUL

The Texas flag waving in the wind.
Texas Independence Day!

Yesterday in the House, we celebrated Texas Independence Day.  Texas Independence is the celebration of the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836. With this document signed by 59 people, settlers in Mexican Texas officially broke from Mexico creating the Republic of Texas.  I believe it incredibly important for Texans to keep fighting for our liberties and our beliefs just as our revolutionary hero's did.  To read more about Texas Independence click here

Green Light Houston Transportation Reception

Representative Paul spoke at the Green Light Houston reception on February 26 thanking all those who came to the Capitol to advocate for the improvement of transportation efficiency in the Houston area. He highlighted issues about long term construction on I-45 that inconvenience constituents among other Texas drivers. He supported the use of Proposition 1 as a source of revenue to advance the project.

Green Light Houston represents the region's collective approach in highlighting Houston's impact on the Texas economy and the economic importance of investing more in Houston's transportation system. The Green Light Houston host committee is comprised of 5 regional transportation advocacy groups; TAG, BayTran, the Greater 288 Partnership, the 36A Coalition, and the SH 249 Partnership. Our goal is to bring one voice to Austin to promote transportation and infrastructure improvements and encourage legislators to pass legislation to establish a sustainable funding source for transportation.

"House Bill 11--Stronger Border, Safer Texas Act!"

Yesterday I was proud to join colleagues from both parties in supporting the Stronger Border, Safer Texas Act by Chairman Bonnen, which will permanently strengthen law enforcement on the border and give DPS the tools to crack down on crime syndicates across the state. Committee Update

Last week most House committees met for the first time.  In the pension committee we received an introductory presentation from the Pension Review Board, ERS, TRS, TX County & District Retirement, and the TX Municipal Retirement Systems.  In the insurance committee an introductory presentation was made by the Texas Department of Insurance, Health & Human Services Commission, Office of Public Insurance Counsel, TX Public Finance Authority, TWIA, and the Department of Information Resources.  It is my intention to work hard to represent my constituents fully as we hear testimony on the many pension and insurance related legislation that is before the Texas House committee.  If you are interested in viewing any committees, please visit the Texas Legislature Online for the committee schedules.
