 OFFICE OF STATE REPRESENTATIVE
DENNIS PAUL

military_fireworks.jpg Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program

The Texas Legislature created the TX Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) to encourage students to participate in Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) programs at Texas institutions of higher education.  The scholarship also encourages students to become members of the TX Army National Guard or the TX Air Force National Guard, or commissioned officers in any branch of the armed services of the United States.

As a state representative I have the great honor to appoint one student from my district to receive a TASSP.  Students must meet specific requirements in order to be eligible for nomination and receipt of a scholarship of up to $10,000 annually.  If you or anyone you know is interested, please send a resume and cover letter to District129.Paul@house.state.tx.us.  To learn more about the TASSP click here.

Current Legislation Filed

During legislative session we have many deadlines to meet.  One of those is the bill filing deadline which falls on March 13th of this year.  I meet with stakeholders daily to discuss issues important to house district 129 and how filing legislation may benefit the community.  To date, I have filed six separate pieces of legislation and signed on in support of seven of my colleagues legislation.  My staff and I read legislation each day to determine what I might support to benefit our district and Texans everywhere.  To learn more about legislation filed please visit the Texas Legislature Online.  You may also express your support or opposition to legislation by emailing me at District129.Paul@house.state.tx.us.  Thank you for the opportunity to represent you in the Texas House.

University of Houston Legislative Day

On Monday, I had the great honor to meet UH's 13th head Coach Tom Herman during the university's legislative advocacy day.  Throughout the day, my staff and I met with constituents who attend some of the great campuses within the UH system to discuss the many legislative issues important to the cougar community.  I will work with my colleagues to encourage continued support for programs such as STEM, NASA Aerospace Scholars & Technology Outreach, and downward expansion at UHCL.

Bay Area Houston Day at the Capitol
Legislative Advocacy Day

Last week constituents from throughout the bay area visited the Texas Capitol to meet with members to discuss issues facing the district.  Some of the topics discussed included the Ellington Spaceport, higher education initiatives, franchise taxes, and the marine industry.  The day was topped off with a great lunch at Serrano's Mexican restaurant where I had the opportunity to visit with many friends and community leaders.
