FEDS APPROVE NEW ELLINGTON SPACEPORT

Congratulations to Ellington Field, the City of Houston, and all those who contributed to Ellington being awarded an official Launch Site License to operate as a Spaceport from the FAA. Ellington Field will be one of 10 Spaceports in the U.S. This launch site for Reusable Launch Vehicles (RLV's) will allow Houston to become a key innovator of commercial space operations, as well as continuing to be a pioneer in the aerospace industry.

During the 84th Legislative session, the Texas Aerospace Legislative Caucus worked extremely hard to support spaceport legislation.  We must continue to invest in infrastructure that attracts companies and vendors in the space industry in order to grow our local economy. As House Chairman of the caucus, we will continue to work hard to support spaceport initiatives and keep constituents apprised of new ventures.

SUPREME COURT'S RULING ON HOUSE BILL 2

Early this week, the Supreme Court issued an order that the 2013 House Bill 2 provision would be put on hold.  House Bill 2 a provision of the Texas abortion law that closed all but eight abortion facilities in the state was given a temporary ruling. I am deeply upset with the court's decision, but I will continue to make sure the court upholds the 2013 law just as the 5th circuit court has done.

Federal Resolution to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board

I along with other conservative members of the Texas Legislature signed onto a letter supporting federal resolution H.R.1190, which would repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB)-a central feature of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).  Many of us in the Texas Legislature hope that the U.S. Senate acts quickly.

Please see the article from the Wall Street Journal about IPAB published July 1st.  Additionally, you can read more on the Texas Conservative Coalitions website by clicking here
