E-Newletter from State Representative Dennis Paul

Flag presentation to Governor Abbott

On Monday, April 4th, Lockheed Martin Space Systems presented Governor Abbott with a framed Texas Flag that was flown on Orion's Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1) on December 5, 2014.
Presenters were: Joe Mayer, Lockheed Martin Director, Government Relations; Larry Price, Lockheed Martin Orion Deputy Program Manager;Linda Singleton, Lockheed Martin Orion Program Communications; Bob Mitchell, President, Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership and Representative "Doc" Anderson (Vice Chairman of the Texas Aerospace Legislative Caucus).
SPACEX TEST FACILITY TOUR

Recently my office had the great opportunity to tour the SpaceX Test Facility in McGregor, TX. It was an incredible learning experience for us as we continue to grow the space industry in Texas.  In addition to the tour SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell spoke on the future of space flight and Mars exploration.

The Texas Aerospace Legislative Caucus will continue to support spaceport funding as we prepare for the next legislative session.

The Texas Tribune's: "Protecting Houston Before the Next Storm."

In March, The Texas Tribune hosted an informational meeting on hurricane storm surge protection at the San Jacinto College Maritime Technology and Training Center.  This is a great issue of importance to our Bay Area cities, and is imperative to continue discussion in the region and at the state level.

If the Houston-Galveston region remains unprotected from substantial storm surge during a hurricane, the risk are far too many. At risk are the lives and well-being of 5.5 million residents, their properties, jobs and businesses. It is home to NASA Johnson Space Center, the world-renowned Texas Medical Center and the global energy industry. Without the protection of a storm surge protection concept, a direct hit from a hurricane could obliterate the Ports of Houston, Texas City and Galveston and the petrochemical and industrial complexes, causing multi-billions in lost trade and a crippling of global commerce reliant upon these resources.

Emergency Hurricane Operations

Recently I had to opportunity to attend a full scale live trial run of emergency operating procedures for the Houston-Galveston area for hurricane support at the coast guard sector office.

We were also provided updates on homeland security measures, contingency plans, and port conditions in Texas.

District 129 Community
A Look Around The District

Author and Friend - Frank Urbanic recently visited our district office with an autographed copy of his recent book: WE WERE PREPARED - A never before told story of how the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America were mobilized for emergency services during the Texas City Disaster of 1947.  I am proud to represent this incredible individual and so many like him who continue to share the history of our area of Texas.

I had the great honor to attend the presentation of the legislative resolution honoring the Chinese American Doctors of Houston.
The Chinese American Doctors Association of Houston (CADAH) is a non-profit organization formed in 1993 to unite Chinese American doctors in promoting their social and professional image.

In January, as a part of the Texas Aerospace Legislative Caucus Tour members were able to witness the unveiling of Independence Plaza. Pictured is the 80-ton shuttle replica "Independence"  along with the 159-ton shuttle carrier aircraft NASA 905, (a Boeing 747-123 model built in 1970, was the first and only SCA (Shuttle Carrier Aircraft) used by the space shuttle program until November 1990).

The Texas Aerospace Legislative Caucus Tour gave guests a better understanding of the aerospace industry and the exciting developments happening in our area and across the state. We want to personally thank BAHEP, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Space Center Houston & Houston Spaceport for your hospitality and arranging this event.
