SPEAKER STRAUS ANNOUNCES HOUSE COMMITTEES
REPRESENTATIVE PAUL NAMED VICE-CHAIR OF TEXAS PORTS, INNOVATION & INFRASTRUCTURE SELECT COMMITTEE
There are 38 standing committees in the House. In addition, Speaker Straus established two select committees: The Select Committee on State and Federal Power and Responsibility, and the Select Committee on Texas Ports, Innovation & Infrastructure.
Representative Paul looks forward to serving as Vice-Chair of the newly established Texas Ports, Innovation & Infrastructure select committee. Texas Ports create nearly 1.4 million jobs generating $82.8 billion in personal income. The Port of Houston specifically is a 25-mile-long complex of diversified public and private facilities located a few hours' sailing time from the Gulf of Mexico.
Representative Paul will continue to serve on the House Pensions and Insurance committees as well as the House Rules and Resolutions committee.
House Pensions has jurisdiction over benefits or participation in benefits of a public retirement system and the financial obligations of a public retirement system; and the following state agencies: the Office of Fire Fighters' Pension Commissioner, the Board of Trustees of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, the Board of Trustees of the Employees Retirement System of Texas, the Board of Trustees of the Texas County and District Retirement System, the Board of Trustees of the Texas Municipal Retirement System, and the State Pension Review Board.
House Insurance has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to insurance and the insurance industry; all insurance companies and other organizations of any type writing or issuing policies of insurance in the State of Texas, including their organization, incorporation, management, powers, and limitations; and the following state agencies: the Texas Department of Insurance, the Texas Health Benefits Purchasing Cooperative, and the Office of Public Insurance Counsel.
House Rules and Resolutions has jurisdiction over Rules of Procedure of the House of Representatives, and all proposed amendments; Joint Rules of the House and Senate, and all proposed amendments; all procedures for expediting the business of the house in an orderly and efficient manner; all resolutions to congratulate, memorialize, or name mascots of the house; and other matters concerning rules, procedures, and operation of the house assigned by the speaker.
