District 129 Session Newsletter

This Friday, my fellow House Members and I concluded week three of the 89th Legislative Session. As of January 30th, over 2,290 bills have been filed in the Texas House, including nine of my own. This reflects approximately a 27% increase in bills filed compared to the first three weeks of the 88th session.

The number of bills filed will continue to grow until the March 14th filing deadline. These bills will begin to be referred to committees after the Speaker releases committee assignments for this session. The 30 standing committees will be hard at work reviewing legislation until the end of the 89th Regular Session on June 2nd.

It is an honor to serve you in the Texas House of Representatives.

Updates from the Capitol

Committee Preference

Committees for the 89th Session have yet to be announced, but this week marked an crucial step in selection process. My fellow Representatives and I completed our preference cards to deliver to the Speaker, where we indicate what committees we have interest in. Next week we will likely hear the Speaker selection for committees. Half of committee appointments are based on seniority and the remaining appointments are filled by the Speaker.

I had the pleasure of introducing the keynote speaker Russell Ybarra, the founder and CEO of Gringo's Mexican Kitchen & Jimmy Changas.

We are pictured together below:

Eliza and I were seated with the West Gulf Maritime Association, see us together below:

At the banquet, I had the opportunity to speak with Amy Skicki from BayTran. BayTran is an advocate for improved infrastructure, air quality, and traffic solutions through strong community and leadership partnerships. Here is our picture together below:
