 OFFICE OF STATE REPRESENTATIVE
DENNIS PAUL

Texas Honors Fallen Soldier Chris Kyle.

On February 2nd,, the Texas House, passed a resolution honoring "American Sniper" author and U.S. Navy Seal, Chris Kyle. Governor Greg Abbott declared the day as "Chris Kyle Day" to honor Kyle as an "American Hero". Kyle was the recipient of two Silver Star Medals, five Bronze Star Medals, one Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.  A petition drive is underway to consider him for the Medal of Honor. It was my pleasure to be a part of recognizing his service and his family.  Kyle did four tours in Iraq and was considered to be the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history. Kyle was shot and killed on February 2, 2013, at a shooting range near Chalk Mountain, Texas, along with friend Chad Littlefield.

Legislation Currently Filed

HB 1078: There are multiple pieces of legislation filed in regards to the diversion of sporting good sales tax from the Texas Parks and Wildlife.  HB1078 repeals the section in the tax code allowing for that diversion.

HB 1081: Due to the importance of transportation needs in Texas and specifically in district 129, this legislation would allow automobile sales taxe to be directed to the state highway fund.

Additionally, I have signed on in support of HB623 by Representative Cecil Bell of Magnolia and HB910 by Representative Larry Phillips of Sherman.  To learn more about legislation filed please visit the Texas Legislature Online.

Biennial Revenue Estimate 2016-2017
A closer look by Comptroller Glenn Hegar

At the beginning of each regular session of the Texas Legislature, the Texas Constitution requires the Comptroller of Public Accounts to submit a statement showing the state's financial condition and estimating the revenue it can expect to receive during the next two-year budget period. This Biennial Revenue Estimate (BRE) thus forms the basis of each successive state budget. Legislators must ensure that total appropriations do not exceed the amount predicted to be available in the BRE.  To read more about the BRE please click here The Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.

Every day of session represents an advocacy day at the Texas Capitol.  On any given day, my staff and I are educated on issues ranging from education to health care.  It gives me great pleasure to represent the citizens of House District 129.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in Austin.  I look forward to keeping each of you informed of the laws we debate during legislative session.
