Texas Legislators visit Ft. Hood

On February 6th, legislators and staff had the opportunity to visit the Ft. Hood Army installation.  It was our distinct honor to visit with America's Armored Corps and meet soldiers from the district.  I am committed to helping keep Ft. Hood a major installation to support the $2.5 billion impact it contributes to Texas.  This coincides with our support of Ellington JRB.  We must continue to work on veterans issues at the state level to protect those who have given their lives for our freedom.

Galveston County Republican Club Lincoln Day Dinner

My wife and I recently attended the Galveston County Republican Women's Lincoln Day Dinner. We had the distinct pleasure of meeting former NASA Mission Control Flight Director Gene Kranz. Most of us in HD 129 and the surrounding districts know him to be the flight director during the Gemini and Apollo space programs. Mr. Kranz and his team are most notably recognized for their role in safely returning the crew of manned Moon mission Apollo 13 after a oxygen tank exploded two days after its launch. I  am proud to have NASA as a part of the district I serve.

Representative Paul appointed to House Committees

On February 4th, Texas House Speaker Joe Straus announced the membership of House committees for the 84th Legislature.  In making his appointments, Speaker Straus considered the needs and priorities of rural and urban areas in every region of the state, as well as the diversity of the House membership.

I was named to two very important committees, House committee on Insurance and the committee on Pensions.  The committee on Insurance has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to insurance and the insurance industry, as well as the following state agencies: the Texas Department of Insurance, the Texas Health Benefits Purchasing Cooperative, and the Office of Public Insurance Counsel.

The committee on Pensions addresses benefits or participation in benefits of a public retirement system and the financial obligations of a public retirement system; and the following state agencies: the Office of Fire Fighters' Pension Commissioner, the Board of Trustees of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, the Board of Trustees of the Employees Retirement System of Texas, the Board of Trustees of the Texas County and District Retirement System, the Board of Trustees of the Texas Municipal Retirement System, and the State Pension Review Board.

I believe I can make an impact on issues that directly relate to the citizens of Texas and our future. I look forward to hearing from constituents on related issues and am honored to serve you in the Texas House.
